Governor Whitmer ordered the new short lockdown for Detroit casinos

Earlier this year, we reported that Detroit’s three casinos were closed due to COVID-19 lockdown measures. We also reported that they were allowed to reopen at 15% capacity.

While operating at such limited capacity is far from ideal, some revenue is better than none, but things have taken a turn for the worse in the final quarter of 2020. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered them closed once again as part of a package of new lockdown measures to control rising cases in the state.

New Woes for Detroit Casinos – The Details

As has been the case at other casinos across the USA, the Greektown, MGM Grand Detroit, and MotorCity may have to lay off some staff. This has not yet been announced, but it’s not hard to see the writing on the wall as a potentially “Dark Winter” lies ahead for the USA.

Will all of these iconic casinos survive? It depends in part on the financial aid they receive, but either way, they’ll be closed for the next few weeks, putting further pressure on their finances.
