There are almost 150 casinos in Great Britain but since last December a new casino built in England has made the headlines: it’s Aspers Casino in London. This private casino is a joint venture between the Aspinall family and Crown Limited Australia.
This group already runs four casinos and had a very good reputation for both its impressive range of games and its numerous types of entertainment.
Aspers Casino is situated in a London suburb. It is the largest casino in Europe. It has a 14 screen cinema, 325 shops, a bowling alley and an hotel with 617 rooms. As for the casino, it covers more than 6 000 m2 and offers a great array of games: 150 slot machines; 40 roulette, blackjack and punto banco tables; a 12 table poker room and 150 seats for Texas Hold’em and Omaha.
Besides this diverse range of games, the complex includes a restaurant with Chinese and Indian food as well as two bars. Every evening concerts are organised and one room has been fitted specially with multi media screens to allow betting clients follow sports competitions.
The opening of Aspers Casino wasn’t without some problems. The procedure to gain the two licences took a long time. In fact, the Gambling Commission had to give the go ahead along with the local authorities. After gaining the licences the casino had to agree to strictly observe other conditions.
For security, surveillance cameras were installed in the whole building. Also the casino has to ensure that every player leaves his finger prints. Aspers Casino also agreed to recruit 80% of its employees from the local population.
The director of Aspers Casino, Richard Smith, is very pleased with the encouraging figures from this first semester. The Olympic Games and the Unibet Open, which should take place next September in Aspers Casino should add to the popularity of this out of the ordinary complex for which a wonderful future is predicted.
